Ramadan Donation to Gaza: An Honest Guide From Inside
You want your Ramadan giving to reach a real family in Gaza. Not a logo. Not a call center in another country. A family, with a name, in a tent or a half-standing house, before Maghrib.
That worry is fair. I live here. I have watched aid trucks sit at a crossing for days while the price of a sack of flour tripled at the market a kilometre away. I have also watched a mother count coins for cooking gas. So when you ask "will my money actually arrive, and can I prove it?" — I am not going to hand you a marketing answer. I am going to show you the mechanics, the fees, the Islamic rulings that matter, and the exact steps to check a transfer with your own eyes.
This is the reference page for everything about giving to Gaza during Ramadan and the days of Qurbani. Read it once and you will donate with clear eyes for years.
Why Ramadan giving to Gaza is different this year
Ramadan already multiplies the weight of every good deed. The Prophet ﷺ was described as more generous than the sending wind in Ramadan. But generosity is not the hard part for most people. Trust is.
The situation on the ground is not abstract. The UN's humanitarian office, UN OCHA — occupied Palestinian territory, publishes near-daily snapshots of what is entering Gaza and what is blocked, and the picture is grim: markets that flicker in and out of stock, prices that swing wildly, whole neighbourhoods with no functioning bakery. When you give in Ramadan, you are not topping up a comfortable household. You are often deciding whether a family eats a cooked meal at iftar or breaks their fast on bread and za'atar again.
That is the emotional truth. The practical truth is that a lot of well-meant money never becomes food. It gets eaten by overhead, delayed by intermediaries, or — bluntly — pocketed. So the useful question during Ramadan is not "should I give?" It is "how do I give so that a specific family in Gaza actually receives it, and I can verify that they did?"
Zakat or sadaqah — what to give, and to whom
Before the how, settle the what. People mix these up and it changes the ruling.
Zakat is obligatory — 2.5% on qualifying savings held for a lunar year. It has eight specific categories of recipients named in the Qur'an (Surah At-Tawbah, 9:60). Two of them fit Gaza directly: al-fuqara (the poor) and al-masakin (the needy). A displaced family that has lost income, home, and stored food qualifies plainly. Zakat must reach an eligible person's ownership — it cannot pay for a charity's salaries or a well's concrete. So if you are sending zakat, it should land as cash or its direct equivalent (food, essentials) in the hands of the poor.
Sadaqah is voluntary and flexible. It can fund anything good — a water well, tent repair, a shared kitchen, medical supplies. This is where sadaqah jariyah (continuing charity) lives: a well that keeps giving water after you are gone earns you reward for as long as people drink from it.
Qurbani / Udhiyah is the sacrifice of the days of Eid al-Adha. In a place like Gaza, where meat is a rare luxury and many children have not tasted it in months, a properly slaughtered share distributed to families is one of the highest-impact things you can fund. Ask whoever handles it for photo or video proof of the animal and the distribution — a serious operator will have it.
Quick rule of thumb: give zakat as direct family cash/food, give sadaqah to both families and lasting projects, and time your Qurbani for the Eid days specifically. FundGaza's Food Basket Project is built to satisfy the zakat requirement — it puts staple food directly into a named family's hands, documented.
The trust problem, and how on-chain giving solves it
Here is the part most guides skip. Traditional giving asks you to trust a chain of promises: you trust the platform, which trusts a partner NGO, which trusts a field office, which trusts a coordinator, who says the family received the aid. Every link is a place where money can leak or a receipt can be faked. You, the donor, see a thank-you email and nothing else.
FundGaza runs on a different assumption — that you should not have to trust me at all. You should be able to check.
We use USDT (Tether) on the TRON network, TRC-20. Every transfer is written to a public blockchain that anyone on earth can read, forever. When a donation comes in and when it goes out to buy flour or pay for a family's basket, those movements exist as records you can pull up yourself on Tronscan, the TRON block explorer. No login. No asking permission. The ledger does not care who you are.
That is the whole point of choosing crypto here, and it is worth being precise about why. It is not because it is trendy. It is because in Gaza the banking system is crippled, cash is scarce and dangerous to move, and USDT holds a stable dollar value while local currency and access swing violently. A stablecoin that settles in seconds, for cents, and leaves a permanent public receipt is — for this specific place and moment — the honest tool.
How to verify a USDT transfer on Tronscan, step by step
Do not take my word for any of this. Here is exactly how to confirm a TRC-20 USDT transfer yourself, whether it is your own donation or one FundGaza publishes.
Get the transaction hash (TxID). This is a long string starting with a mix of letters and numbers. When you donate, your wallet gives you one. When FundGaza reports an outgoing spend, we publish it.
Open a block explorer. Go to tronscan.org in any browser. It is independent of us — a public TRON explorer.
Paste the TxID into the search bar at the top and press enter.
Read the result. You will see: the From address, the To address, the Amount (e.g. 100 USDT), the Token (Tether USD, TRC-20), the Status (should say "Success" / "Confirmed"), and the exact timestamp.
Check the wallet history. Click any address to see its full transaction list — everything in, everything out, with running balances. Nothing can be hidden here.
Confirm the token contract. Genuine USDT on TRON has one official contract address (TR7NHqjeKQxGTCi8q8ZY4pL8otSzgjLj6t). Tronscan labels real USDT automatically; be wary of look-alike tokens with the same name but a different contract.
Once you have done this once, the abstraction collapses. You are no longer trusting a story. You are reading a ledger. That shift — from "I hope it arrived" to "I can see it arrived" — is the entire reason FundGaza exists.
Fees and transparency: an honest comparison
Nobody likes to talk numbers, so let me be blunt about where money goes.
Large international charities typically spend a meaningful slice on overhead — staff, offices, fundraising, audits. That is not automatically wrong; scale costs money and accountability costs money. But it does mean a real fraction of your Ramadan donation never becomes food. And the reporting you get back is aggregate: "we fed X thousand people," not "your $50 became this basket for this family."
Card and PayPal donations carry payment-processor fees, usually a few percent plus a fixed amount per transaction, before the charity sees a cent. Cross-border card payments can add currency conversion on top.
USDT on TRON costs a tiny, fixed network fee per transfer — cents, not percentages — regardless of amount. Send $20 or $2,000, the network cost is roughly the same handful of cents. There is no percentage skim.
FundGaza has no salaried staff, no office lease, no fundraising department. It is a personal initiative run from inside Gaza. The money you send buys what it says it buys, minus a few cents of network fee, and the movements are on-chain for you to audit. That is not a claim of perfection — it is a claim you can check, which is different and better.
For context on the wider system and where institutional aid genuinely does heavy lifting that individuals cannot — coordinating trucks, running clinics, supplying schools — UNRWA remains the backbone agency for Palestinian refugees, and their reporting is worth reading alongside anything you fund directly.
What your money actually buys
Concrete beats abstract. Roughly, and with prices that move week to week in a war economy:
A food basket — flour, rice, lentils, oil, sugar, canned protein, tea — feeds a family for a stretch and is the core of the Food Basket Project. This is the zakat-eligible, highest-frequency need in Ramadan.
Cooking gas or fuel turns raw staples into a hot iftar. Dry food a family cannot cook is half a gift.
Clean water — through shared points or repairs — is a sadaqah jariyah opportunity that keeps giving long after Ramadan.
A Qurbani share during Eid al-Adha puts meat on a table that has not seen it in months.
Some needs are bigger than a basket. When a family has lost the actual house — not just this month's food but the walls — rebuilding is a longer road. You can back one such case directly: Help Nidal Zomlot Family Rebuild Their Lives is a documented effort for a family working to put their life back together. It sits alongside the basics, not instead of them.
Red flags: how to spot a fake Gaza appeal
Ramadan is peak season for scammers precisely because your heart is open. Slow down for thirty seconds and check for these:
No verifiable receipts. If an appeal cannot show you where money went — on-chain records, photos with context, named distributions — that is the biggest flag. Vagueness is a choice.
Pressure and manufactured urgency. "Send now or the child dies tonight" is emotional coercion. Real need is urgent, but real operators explain, they don't stampede you.
Stolen imagery. Reverse-image-search a photo before you trust it. Scammers recycle pictures across dozens of fake pages.
Anonymous everything. No name, no face, no consistent presence, no way to ask a question and get a coherent answer. A real person inside Gaza can tell you specifics about their neighbourhood.
Payment channels that hide the trail. Be cautious with methods designed so no one can ever audit where the money landed. The whole reason FundGaza publishes TxIDs is to be the opposite of this.
Cross-check the humanitarian picture yourself, too. ReliefWeb — Palestine aggregates situation reports from dozens of agencies, so you can sanity-check whether an appeal's claims about conditions match the documented reality.
How to give this Ramadan, cleanly
If you have read this far, you do not need a hard sell. You need a clean path.
Decide your intention first — zakat, sadaqah, or Qurbani — because it changes where the money should land. For zakat, aim it at direct family food. For sadaqah, you can also fund lasting things. For Qurbani, time it to the Eid days and ask for slaughter-and-distribution proof.
Then give in a way you can verify. The most direct route is to donate to Gaza now and keep your transaction hash so you can watch it settle on Tronscan. If you would rather pick the specific need — a food basket, water, a family case — browse active campaigns and choose the one your heart lands on.
Whatever you send, send it as someone who can prove where it went. That is the dignity your giving deserves, and it is the dignity the family on the other end deserves too. This Ramadan, let your reward be built on something real — a record, a name, a meal that actually reached the table.
May your fast be accepted, and your sadaqah with it.
Frequently asked questions
Can I give my zakat to Gaza through FundGaza?
Yes. Displaced Gaza families who have lost income, home, and food stores fall clearly under two Qur'anic zakat categories: al-fuqara (the poor) and al-masakin (the needy). Zakat must reach an eligible person's ownership, so direct it to the Food Basket Project, which puts staple food straight into a named family's hands rather than into overhead or infrastructure.
How do I verify my donation actually reached Gaza?
Keep the transaction hash (TxID) your wallet gives you, open tronscan.org, paste the TxID, and read the from/to addresses, amount, token, status, and timestamp. You can click any wallet address to see its full public history of every transfer in and out. Nothing can be hidden, and you never need permission to check.
Why USDT crypto instead of a normal card donation?
Gaza's banking system is crippled and cash is scarce and dangerous to move. USDT on TRON settles in seconds for a fixed fee of a few cents regardless of amount, holds a stable dollar value, and leaves a permanent public receipt anyone can audit. Card and PayPal donations carry percentage processing fees and give you no verifiable trail.
What is the difference between zakat, sadaqah, and Qurbani for Gaza?
Zakat is the obligatory 2.5% with eight fixed Qur'anic recipient categories; for Gaza, aim it at direct family cash or food. Sadaqah is voluntary and can fund anything good, including lasting sadaqah jariyah like a water well. Qurbani is the Eid al-Adha sacrifice, best timed to the Eid days and distributed as meat shares with photo or video proof.
How can I spot a fake Gaza donation appeal during Ramadan?
Watch for four things: no verifiable receipts or on-chain records, manufactured urgency that pressures you to send instantly, recycled or stolen photos (reverse-image-search them), and total anonymity with no way to ask questions and get coherent answers. Cross-check conditions against ReliefWeb, and favour any operator that publishes transaction records you can audit yourself.
