What Your Donation Actually Buys a Family in Gaza: An Honest Guide From Inside
August 16, 2026
You are about to give money you worked hard for, and a quiet voice keeps asking the same thing: will it actually reach a family, or vanish into overhead, fees, and a photo you can't verify? I live in Gaza. I run this initiative from inside it. So let me answer the way I'd answer a friend at my own door — plainly, with the specifics I can prove and the honesty about the ones I can't.
This page is the anchor for everything we publish about impact. Read it and you'll understand what a donation buys here, why the mechanism matters as much as the money, and how to check that a stranger on the internet — me — is telling the truth.
The short answer: your money buys days, not abstractions
A donation to a family in Gaza doesn't buy "aid." It buys a specific number of days a specific household can keep going without a catastrophe. Clean water they don't have to walk kilometers for. A food basket that means the children eat tonight and tomorrow. A bag of flour. Diapers. A course of medicine when a pharmacy still has stock. Sometimes something as unglamorous as fuel for a generator so a phone stays charged and a family stays reachable.
I won't quote you a neat price list. Prices here move violently — the cost of flour, a water delivery, or a canister of cooking gas can double in a week depending on what crosses the border and what doesn't. Anyone who hands you a fixed "$X feeds a family for a month" number is either guessing or selling you comfort. What I can promise is transparency about each real transfer: what came in, what it bought, and proof it landed.
If you only take one thing from this page: the honest measure of impact isn't a slogan. It's a wallet you can inspect.
What a donation actually pays for, category by category
Clean water
Water is the emergency underneath the emergency. When pumping, treatment, and desalination are damaged or starved of fuel, families are pushed toward whatever water they can find — and unsafe water quietly does its own damage, especially to small children through diarrheal disease and dehydration. The scale of the water and sanitation crisis is documented by agencies like and ; I'm not going to invent figures on top of theirs.
On the ground, your donation to water means concrete things: paying for a tanker delivery to a neighborhood, jerry cans a family can actually carry and store, or a filter that makes questionable water drinkable. Our Water Relief Project exists for exactly this, and it's the campaign I point worried first-time donors toward, because clean water is the purchase where a small amount prevents the largest harm.
Food that reaches a table tonight
The second thing money buys is a meal. Not a symbolic one — a real basket of staples: flour, rice, lentils, oil, sugar, canned protein, sometimes fresh vegetables when the market has them. A basket is designed to stretch a household for a stretch of days, not to be a photo op. Through the Food Basket Project we buy from whatever local supply still exists, which does two useful things at once: it feeds a family, and it keeps a little money moving inside Gaza's own battered economy.
Medicine, hygiene, and the unphotogenic essentials
Then there's everything that doesn't make a moving fundraising image but decides whether a week goes badly or catastrophically. Baby formula and diapers. Sanitary pads. Wound dressings and basic medications when a pharmacy has them. Soap — because in crowded shelter conditions, hygiene is the front line against outbreaks, a link the WHO's team for the occupied Palestinian territory has repeatedly flagged. These purchases are boring. They are also, very often, the ones that matter most.
Why the mechanism matters as much as the money
Here's the part most fundraising pages skip. Two donations of the same size can have wildly different real impact, depending entirely on the pipe the money travels through.
The traditional pipe has real costs stacked along it: card processing, platform cuts, a charity's staff and offices, currency conversion, and layers of intermediaries between your click and a family's hands. None of that is automatically corrupt — large organizations do things a person can't. But every layer is a place where money thins out and where you, the donor, lose the ability to see what happened next.
Our model removes those layers on purpose. Donations come as USDT on the TRON network (TRC-20), and here's the mechanically important detail: a TRC-20 transfer costs cents in network fees, not a percentage of your gift. There's no card processor taking a slice. No conversion spread. The money arrives as a number you can see on a public ledger, and I convert it to cash locally and buy directly from local suppliers, with photos and receipts going back to donors.
Radical transparency isn't a marketing word here. It's the whole point. I'd rather you trust the blockchain than trust me.
How to verify a donation actually landed — step by step
You do not have to take my word for anything. Public blockchains exist precisely so strangers can trust each other without a middleman vouching. Here's exactly how to check a USDT (TRC-20) transfer, whether it's yours or one we published:
Get the transaction hash (TxID). Every on-chain transfer has a unique ID — a long string starting with characters like a1b2…. When you donate, your wallet shows it; when we report a transfer, we publish it.
Open a TRON block explorer. Go to tronscan.org (the public explorer for the TRON network). No account, no login.
Paste the TxID into the search bar. Hit enter.
Read the four things that matter. The status (a confirmed transfer says "SUCCESS"), the amount and token (it should read USDT), the timestamp, and the from/to addresses. The "to" address is the receiving wallet.
Confirm the wallet matches. Compare the receiving address against the wallet we publish. If it matches, that money provably arrived at that address at that time. No one — not me, not a bank — can fake or quietly reverse it.
Do this once and something clicks: you stop hoping the money arrived and start seeing it. If you want the full walkthrough on choosing a wallet, sending safely, and avoiding scams, read our companion guide on how to donate to Gaza safely.
An honest comparison: direct vs. the traditional route
Let me be fair rather than flattering, because you deserve the real tradeoffs.
The direct, on-chain model (what we do). Strengths: near-zero transfer fees, no platform or card cut, money moving in hours not weeks, and a public record you can audit yourself. Weaknesses I won't hide: it depends on one person's integrity and physical safety, it doesn't come with a big organization's audited annual reports, and cash-out and local purchasing carry their own frictions and risk in a war economy. My answer to that weakness is to over-document — receipts, photos, on-chain proof — so the trust rests on evidence, not on my face.
Large charities and NGOs. Strengths: scale, logistics, audits, staff who can operate where an individual can't, and legal accountability. Weaknesses: higher overhead, slower disbursement, and far less visibility for you into the specific dollar you gave. For some needs, they're irreplaceable. This isn't "us good, them bad." It's about matching your donation to the impact you want to see.
Crowdfunding platforms. They add reach and a familiar interface, at the cost of platform and payment fees. We use them where they help — for instance, a family fundraiser like Help Nidal Zomlot Family Rebuild Their Lives lives on a mainstream platform so people who'll never touch crypto can still give. Different door, same house.
The point isn't that one channel wins. It's that you should give through the channel whose accountability you can actually check.
Zakat, sadaqah, and giving that counts
For Muslim donors, a fair question comes first: does this qualify? Direct relief to families who've lost income, homes, and access to basics falls squarely within the categories eligible for zakat — the poor and the needy are the first-named recipients in the Qur'anic verse on zakat's distribution. Sadaqah, voluntary charity, is broader still and covers everything from water to food to medicine.
Two practical notes from inside. First, zakat is meant to reach eligible people, so if you're giving zakat specifically, tell us — we'll direct it to households that clearly qualify and keep it distinct. Second, giving water carries a particular weight in our tradition; providing drink to the thirsty is repeatedly honored, which is part of why the water campaign matters to so many donors beyond the arithmetic of it.
Red flags: how to spot a fake before you give
Desperation attracts predators. Here's what I'd want my own family to watch for:
Pressure and countdown urgency. "Send now or a child dies tonight" is emotional manipulation. Real need is urgent, but honest fundraisers don't rush you past your own judgment.
No verifiable wallet or paper trail. If someone takes crypto but won't show you a public wallet address you can inspect on a block explorer, that opacity is the whole scam.
Stolen or recycled images. Reverse-image-search photos. Fraudsters lift real footage of Gaza and attach their own wallet.
Constantly changing wallet addresses. A shifting "send here instead" wallet is a classic laundering and scam pattern.
No specifics. Vague "we help families" with no named projects, no receipts, no on-chain proof. Ask what your money buys and how you'll see it landed. Silence is your answer.
Requests for your keys or seed phrase. No legitimate recipient ever needs your wallet's private key or recovery phrase. Anyone who asks is trying to empty your wallet.
Apply these to us too. That's the test I want to pass.
What to do next
You came here asking what your money buys. The truest answer is: it buys a family a little more time, and it buys you the right to watch it happen. Start with the need that moves you — clean water is where the smallest gift prevents the largest harm, and a food basket is where impact reaches a table the same week.
You can donate to Gaza now and get the transaction proof to verify yourself, or browse active campaigns and choose exactly which family and which need your gift goes to. Whatever you decide, give through a door you can see through. Here, the door is open, and the ledger is public.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to feed a family in Gaza for a week?
There's no honest fixed number — prices for flour, oil, and staples swing violently with what crosses the border, sometimes doubling within days. Instead of quoting a made-up figure, we buy a food basket from local suppliers and send you the receipt and photos so you see exactly what your gift bought and when it landed.
How do I verify my USDT donation actually reached Gaza?
Take the transaction ID (TxID) your wallet shows, open the public TRON explorer tronscan.org, paste it in, and read the status (SUCCESS), the USDT amount, the timestamp, and the receiving address. Compare that address to the wallet we publish. If they match, the transfer provably landed — no bank or person can fake or reverse it.
Why donate directly instead of through a big charity?
Both have a place. Big charities bring scale, logistics, and audits; direct giving brings near-zero fees, delivery in hours, and an on-chain record you can inspect yourself. The real question is which accountability you can actually check. Our model is built so trust rests on public proof — receipts, photos, and a verifiable wallet — rather than on our word.
Can I give my zakat to a family in Gaza this way?
Yes. Families who've lost income, homes, and access to basics fall squarely within the poor and needy — the first-named recipients of zakat. If you're giving zakat specifically, tell us and we'll direct it to households that clearly qualify and keep it distinct from general charity. Water and food relief both qualify as valid sadaqah as well.
What are the warning signs of a fake Gaza fundraiser?
Watch for high-pressure countdown urgency, no verifiable public wallet you can check on a block explorer, stolen or reverse-searchable images, wallet addresses that keep changing, vague claims with no named projects or receipts, and anyone asking for your private key or seed phrase. Apply these tests to us too — that's the standard we want to meet.
