Donate for Clean Water in Gaza: How Your Money Reaches a Thirsty Family — No Middlemen
July 26, 2026
I filled a jerrican this morning before I sat down to write this. It took forty minutes of waiting, and the water that came out was warm, faintly salty, and the color of weak tea. That is the drinking water. That is what a family in my neighborhood boils, if there is anything to boil it with, and gives to a two-year-old who does not understand why he is still thirsty after drinking.
If you searched for how to donate for clean water in Gaza, you are probably not looking for a lecture. You want to know two things. Will my money actually reach a thirsty family, and how do I make sure I am not being scammed. I live here, I run FundGaza, and I am going to answer both plainly — the mechanics of the water crisis, exactly what a donation buys, and the step-by-step way to verify with your own eyes that the money moved.
Why water — and not just "aid" — is the emergency
People outside Gaza picture the crisis as a food shortage. Hunger is real, but water is the quieter killer, and it kills children fastest.
Gaza sits on a coastal aquifer that was already in trouble before this war. Years of over-pumping pulled seawater in from the Mediterranean, and sewage seeped down from a broken sanitation network. The UN has warned for years that the overwhelming majority of that groundwater is unfit for human consumption — you can read UNICEF's assessment for the State of Palestine directly. So the strip never really drank its own groundwater. It drank desalinated water and piped-in supply, and both of those depend on two things that keep getting cut: electricity and fuel.
When the fuel stops, the desalination plants stop. When the plants stop, families fall back on the aquifer — the salty, contaminated water I described. Boiling kills some pathogens but does nothing about salt or chemical contamination, and boiling itself needs fuel or wood that people are burning furniture to find. The result is predictable and documented: waterborne illness, diarrhoea in infants, dehydration, and skin disease. The World Health Organization tracks these outbreaks in the occupied Palestinian territory, and UN OCHA logs how much water actually enters the strip against how much people need — their situation reports for the occupied Palestinian territory are the closest thing to an honest daily tally.
Here is the part that matters for your donation. Water is one of the few problems that money can fix quickly and locally. You cannot end a war with a transfer. But you can pay a working desalination unit to run another day, fill a tanker truck, or buy a family a filter — and a child drinks clean water that same week. That immediacy is why I built a dedicated Water Relief Project rather than folding water into a general fund.
What your donation actually buys
I will not throw invented figures at you. Prices here move violently with the crossings, fuel availability, and the exchange rate, so any "$X buys Y litres" claim you see frozen on a page is probably out of date the day it is published. What I can tell you is the shape of where money goes, because I spend it myself:
Tankered water delivery. The most direct fix. A desalination or filling point loads a truck, the truck reaches a shelter or a cluster of homes, and jerricans get filled. Your donation pays for the water and the fuel to move it.
Household filters and purification. For families near a bad-but-existing water source, a good filter turns unusable water into drinkable water for weeks. It is cheap relative to trucking and it keeps working after the donation is spent.
Fuel for pumps and desalination. Unglamorous, decisive. A functioning unit that sits idle for lack of diesel is a solved problem waiting for cash.
Storage. Tanks and clean jerricans so that when water does arrive, a family can hold more than a day's supply and stop rationing sips.
Every delivery I make is photographed, and I keep the receipts. That is not a marketing flourish — it is the only thing that lets a stranger on another continent trust a stranger in Gaza.
The safety problem, stated honestly
You are right to be suspicious. This is the hardest part of donating to Gaza, and pretending otherwise insults you.
The moment a crisis trends, fake pages multiply — stolen photos, invented families, urgent DMs, wallet addresses pasted under viral videos. Some are outright theft. Others are "collectors" who take a large cut before anything reaches a family, or platforms that freeze payouts to this region for months. Your instinct to verify is not paranoia. It is the correct instinct, and any honest recipient should welcome it rather than guilt-trip you out of it.
FundGaza's answer is radical transparency built on a specific technical choice: USDT on the TRON network (TRC-20), where every transfer is permanently recorded on a public ledger you can inspect without asking my permission. No middleman sits between you and the record.
How to verify every dollar on-chain — step by step
This is the part I most want you to actually do. You do not need a crypto background. You need a browser.
Get the transaction ID or the wallet address. When you donate in USDT, your wallet or exchange gives you a transaction hash (a long string starting with numbers and letters). For a campaign, we publish the receiving wallet address openly.
Open Tronscan. Go to tronscan.org — the public block explorer for the TRON network. You are not logging in. You are just reading a public database.
Paste the hash or address into the search bar. Hit enter.
Read the record. For a transaction you will see the exact amount of USDT, the sending wallet, the receiving wallet, the timestamp, and a green confirmation status. For a wallet address, you will see its entire history — every dollar in, every dollar out, with dates.
Follow the money out. This is the step most people skip and it is the most powerful. Click the receiving wallet and watch what leaves it. Transparent relief means outflows that make sense — moving to a local exchange or a merchant to be converted for water and fuel — not sitting still or vanishing into a chain of anonymous wallets.
I wrote a fuller walkthrough of this exact process, including how to read the confirmation fields and spot manipulation, in the guide on how to donate to Gaza safely. If you only click one internal link from this article, make it that one — verification is the skill that protects you across every future donation, not just this one.
An honest comparison: on-chain direct vs. the usual routes
Consider three ways your water donation can travel.
A large international charity. Reputable, audited, but your money passes through overhead, national offices, local partners, and procurement layers before water reaches anyone. Some of that overhead is legitimate and necessary. But you rarely see your specific dollar arrive, and in a blockade the disbursement chain can stall for reasons no annual report captures.
A conventional crowdfunding platform. Faster and more personal, but the platform takes a payment-processing cut, controls the payout timeline, and — critically for this region — can freeze or delay transfers to Gaza for compliance review, sometimes for months. The story is real; the money's arrival is not guaranteed on any timeline you can see.
On-chain direct, the FundGaza model. A USDT transfer costs a tiny, flat network fee — cents, not a percentage of your gift — and settles in minutes. There is no organizational overhead skimming the top, because there is no organization between us. And the ledger is public, so "trust me" is replaced by "check for yourself." The tradeoff is honest: you are trusting one person in Gaza to convert and deliver well, instead of an institution's process. The photos, receipts, and public wallet history are how I earn that trust, transaction by transaction.
Where zakat and sadaqah fit
Many people reading this are giving as an act of faith, and water has a special weight in Islamic tradition.
Zakat is permissible here: relieving the poor and stranded (ibn as-sabil, and the destitute) is a core category of eligible recipients, and families in Gaza who have lost home and income plainly qualify. If you are giving zakat, tell me — I keep zakat funds separate and spend them strictly on eligible recipients and essential relief like water and food, not on overhead.
Sadaqah — voluntary charity — is the broader door, and water is its most celebrated form. The Prophet ﷺ was asked which charity is best and answered, in the well-known hadith, "Water." That is not decoration; it shapes how I prioritize.
And there is sadaqah jariyah, ongoing charity that keeps rewarding the giver after the gift. A water source that keeps producing — a filter that serves a family for weeks, a repaired pump, a well — is the classic example. Funding lasting water infrastructure rather than a single delivery is how a one-time gift becomes ongoing reward. Providing for a family beyond a single truckload — the way sponsoring Nidal Zomlot's family to rebuild their lives aims to restore a household, not just a day — carries that same continuing weight.
Red flags — how to spot a fake before you give
Learn these and you protect yourself for good, not just today.
Pressure and urgency scripts. "Send now or they die tonight." Real need is urgent, but manipulation weaponizes the clock to stop you verifying. A genuine recipient wants you to check.
No verifiable trail. If a page cannot show you a public wallet, on-chain history, receipts, or dated photos, and gets defensive when asked — walk away.
Recycled or stolen media. Reverse-image-search the photos. Stock or old images attached to a "family in Gaza" is a classic tell.
Address that keeps changing. A recipient who posts a new wallet every week, or asks you to move to a private channel to pay, is hiding the trail on purpose.
Anonymous and unaccountable. Someone who will not put a name, a face, and a consistent public record behind the ask is not someone to send money to. Transparency is the recipient's burden to carry, not yours to excuse.
Hold FundGaza to every one of these. That is the point.
The objection I hear most
"Isn't sending crypto to a war zone risky?" It would be, if I asked you to gamble on a coin's price. I do not. USDT is a stablecoin pegged to the dollar — it holds its value while it moves — and it is simply the fastest, cheapest, most transparent rail that still works into a blockaded strip when banks and card processors do not. You are not speculating. You are using a public ledger to send a dollar that stays a dollar and arrives in minutes, with a receipt no one can quietly edit.
Where to start
If you have read this far, you already care more than most. The simplest next step is to fund water directly through the Water Relief Project, or if you would rather see everything active first, browse active campaigns and choose where your gift lands. When you are ready, you can donate to Gaza now and then — please — verify the transfer on Tronscan the way I described. Check my work. That is the whole idea.
The child I mentioned at the start is real, and so is the warm salty water. A clean drink for him this week costs less than you would guess, and you will be able to watch the money arrive. That is a rare thing in charity. Use it.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know my water donation actually reaches a family in Gaza?
Give in USDT on the TRON network and you get a public transaction record. Paste the transaction hash or the campaign wallet address into tronscan.org and you will see the exact amount, the wallet it went to, the timestamp, and a confirmation. You can even follow the money out of the receiving wallet. On top of that, FundGaza photographs every water delivery and keeps receipts, so you can match the on-chain movement to real deliveries.
What exactly does my money buy for clean water?
Depending on what a family needs, it pays for tankered water delivery and the fuel to move it, household filters that turn a bad-but-existing source into drinkable water for weeks, diesel to run a stalled desalination unit or pump, or clean storage tanks and jerricans. Prices swing with the crossings and fuel supply, so instead of a fixed 'X litres for Y dollars' claim, I document each purchase with photos and receipts.
Can I give zakat for water relief in Gaza?
Yes. Relieving the destitute and stranded is a core category of eligible zakat recipients, and displaced families in Gaza who have lost home and income qualify. Tell me you are giving zakat and I keep those funds separate, spending them strictly on eligible recipients and essential relief like water and food, never on overhead.
Is donating water as sadaqah jariyah possible?
Yes, and water is the classic example of it. Sadaqah jariyah is ongoing charity that keeps rewarding the giver after the gift is spent. A water source that keeps producing — a filter serving a family for weeks, a repaired pump, a well — fits this exactly, because people keep drinking from it long after your donation. Funding lasting water capacity rather than a single delivery turns a one-time gift into continuing reward.
Isn't sending crypto to a war zone risky?
Not the way FundGaza uses it. I do not ask you to gamble on a coin's price. USDT is a stablecoin pegged to the dollar, so it holds its value while it moves. It is simply the fastest, cheapest, most transparent rail that still works into a blockaded strip when banks and card processors freeze or refuse transfers. You are using a public ledger to send a dollar that stays a dollar and arrives in minutes, with a receipt no one can quietly edit.
